Why We Made Talking Tree
Talking Tree began with a desire to improve access to legal resources for small and midsize companies. When I transitioned from Meta to a smaller publicly traded company, I saw firsthand just how challenging legal scaling could be for growing businesses. Faced with exorbitant costs, small teams, and a mountain of mislabeled, unsearchable documents, we found ourselves constantly racing against time and battling inefficiency. And this wasn’t just our struggle—it was the reality for many small businesses and startups. They had to choose between bottlenecking their business with slow processes or incurring significant overhead costs for legal and compliance. Fast growth was simply not an option, and every headcount mattered.
That’s why we made Talking Tree. Our idea is simple: we want to make legal services affordable for small businesses. Our AI-powered platform reduce organizational burdens and overhead costs by taking L1 and L2 legal tasks in-house, while our network connect them to a quality outside counsel that is right for their industry and budget. For example, Redwood, our AI-guided repository that enables small businesses, startup lawyers, and entrepeneurs to tackle house keeping legal tasks such as drafting contracts and writing collection letters in a matter of minutes. Redwood also helps interpret lengthy agreements into plain english action items, and use natural language to extract key terms, create tables of terms, and compare multiple documents to keep your business information at your fingertips. Essentially, it’s a startup legal garage where the contract manager is built right into the repository.
What’s on the Horizon: Roble, Fir, and Teak
We’re also working on other products, including Roble, Fir, and Teak. These tools are being designed with the same mission in mind: to provide affordable legal help and direct-to-consumer legal service products that empower small businesses and startups. When these beta products are ready, I’ll be excited to share more details. For our existing customers, we’ll be offering these beta products to test for free, along with a discount on the final market-ready versions.
